Using AI-Generated Scientific Humor for Teaching in Renewable Energy Engineering

چکیده :

Learning specialized concepts in renewable energy engineering is often challenging due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field, highlighting the need for innovative instructional approaches. This study introduces a structured method based on AI-generated scientific humor to support students’ understanding of complex topics. The method consisted of two main steps: first, students analyzed a technical article and extracted its key concepts using generative AI tools; second, they created humor pieces related to those concepts to facilitate creative representation, increase motivation, and simplify technical understanding. To evaluate learners’ experiences, an 11-item Likert-scale questionnaire was developed, measuring educational effectiveness, technology acceptance, and attitudes toward the use of generative AI in education. The findings indicated improved motivation, enhanced conceptual understanding, and a more engaging learning experience, while participants also emphasized the need for human oversight and content accuracy. The proposed approach was implemented as a supplementary tool at Shahid Beheshti University and can be extended to other engineering disciplines.
