Enhancing Student Motivation in Science Education through Motion Graphics Designed with Component Display Theory

چکیده :
This study aimed to compare the impact of three teaching methods—motion graphics designed based on Merrill’s Component Display Theory, explanatory motion graphics, and the lecture method—on the motivation of sixth-grade students in science education. Conducted during the 2021–2022 academic year, the research adopted a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test phases. The sample consisted of 75 male students from primary schools in Khalkhal, Ardabil Province, divided into three groups of 25. Experimental Group 1 received instruction through Merrill’s theory-based motion graphics, Experimental Group 2 through explanatory motion graphics, and the Control Group via traditional lectures. Data were collected using the Science Motivation Questionnaire (SMTSL) and analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The findings showed that motion graphics significantly improved students’ motivation in science education, with Merrill’s theory-based motion graphics yielding the highest motivational gains. These results emphasize the value of applying Merrill’s principles in designing educational materials to enhance motivation in learning science.
