The Effect of AI-based Feedback Provision on Iranian EFL Learners’ Writing Performance and their Attitude

چکیده :

The efficacy of incorporating AI-based feedback in strengthening writing performance and attitude of Iranian EFL students is examined in this quasi-experimental work. The sample was chosen from 80 participants, both men and women. 55 participants, whose scores were one standard deviation from the mean on the Oxford Placement Test, indicating intermediate level, were selected. Participants were placed into experimental (N = 28) and control (N = 27) groups via simple random sampling. The experimental group used ProWritingAid, an AI-based feedback program, while the control group underwent conventional classes. After twenty sessions, participants took a written post-test and attitudinal questionnaire. An independent sample t-test was carried out in SPSS to analyze the data. The analysis revealed that Iranian EFL students' writing skills were significantly affected by ProWritingAid. ProWritingAid usage thus incentivizes developing their writing skills. Additionally, results manifested the positive effect of AI-based feedback on EFL learners’ attitude. The researchers hope this study illuminates this matter and trainers will use the gained knowledge to aid their students' efficient writing
